In the shadow of Ben Cruachan, an imposing peak that rises majestically above Loch Etive in the West Highlands of Scotland, lies the village of Taynuilt, home to a dance school which is a centre of excellence for ballet training. It is a small school centred on a large country house set in a vast tract of rugged Scottish moorland and forest.
Ballet West was established as a provider of full-time, post-16 dance training in 1995 and since then has developed an international reputation for offering the very best in classical ballet training.
The school has close links with the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD), teaching the Vocational Graded Examination syllabi of the academy.
Ballet West produces consistently high marks in RAD examinations and several students at the school have been awarded the Solo Seal of the academy. The school can boast not only finalists in the Adeline Genée awards, but also medallists.

Students from the school have gone on to work with major ballet companies including The Royal Ballet, Scottish Ballet, English National Ballet and Birmingham Royal Ballet. Some have joined smaller dance companies, such as Ballet Ireland and Ballet Imaginaire.
Although Ballet West is best known for producing excellent classical dancers, our students are also in demand as jazz dancers with commercial companies and contemporary dance companies. Students who specialised in teaching while at the school are now working in the UK and abroad.
